Dr. Lourdes A. Manahan Centennial Rheumatology Issue of Acta Medica Philippina

In the early 1960s, a young internist from Philippine General Hospital in the name of Dr. Lourdes A. Manahan created the foundation of Philippine Rheumatology. After her publication on a familial condition which later bear her name, the Rotor-Manahan-Florentin Syndrome, her research interest soon shifted towards rheumatology. Being the only rheumatologist in the country during those years, she shared the Philippine rheumatology experience in the international community.

In celebration of her centennial anniversary, the Division of Rheumatology continues Dr. Manahan’s legacy with this special issue of Acta Medica Philippina, which republishes three of her earlier works. This issue also features original studies and case reports of the consultants, fellows, and residents of the division and department.

Congratulations to the Division of Rheumatology and to all those who contributed in this issue. We are truly proud of you!
