Medical ICU

The Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) is the critical care facility for COVID-negative service patients of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). It is composed of 5 regular beds in the Neurology Intensive Care Unit (NICU), 3 regular beds in the Neurosurgical Special Care Unit (NSSCU), and 3 borrowed, regular beds in the Central Intensive Care Unit (CENICU) that cater to charity medical patients referred from the emergency department, the medical wards (Wards 1 and 4), other service areas (non-medical wards) of the PGH, and of other referring hospitals. They are shared by the Adult Medical Services composed of the Department of Neurosciences and Department of Medicine. They are staffed by competent specialist physicians who directly supervise post-residency fellows and internal medicine residents complemented by nurses and paramedical personnel.

Central ICU

Last January 2021, the Central ICU (CENICU) has relocated to the 2nd floor intensive care unit, the former location of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Until present time, it caters exclusively to non-COVID patients and is operating on an 8 (eight) bed capacity, with 5 (five) beds allocated for pay patients and 3 (three) beds allocated for service patients. It is currently manned by Year Level III residents from the Department of Medicine.
